Origin of God: The Evolution of Religion and Its Gods
By Kenneth V. Kardong, professor, WSU School of Biological Sciences
Each human comes equipped with a god-sized hole in his very being. We are inherently religious. But the question addressed in this book is this: “Why is religion present in the human character in the first place?” Such behaviors must bring biologically adaptive benefits, or the culling hand of Darwinian evolution would have eliminated such practices long ago. This book examines the biological reasons why religious practices evolved in the first place and why the evolution of god or gods in the human species was indispensable and an evolutionary necessity.
